Does anyone know of an archive to HP JetDirect FW files (.dld) where I can find the incremental FW I need? I've tried the wayback machine and the ftp.hp.com site, but the structure changed in 2017, so I don't know where to look, if it even did crawl it then. There are a handful of 90's & 00's-era printers on-site that are running JetDirect cards with firmware too out of date to update - catch-22!
Our NOC has updated switchport security to deny static IP addresses, and have made exceptions for these printers, but they routinely get overwritten by the config updates they do. From what I can tell, DHCP reliability was addressed in the later FW versions. For example, there is a 610n (J4169A) at FW version L.21.11, but HP that you can't get to current (L.25.57) from this FW version. HP DLM shows the update required, but fails to push it. Any help is appreciated!

I am not following you, @Tim7139. You mean ask HP support for the FW? Nope, but I can see the typo email/ebay causing confusion.
HP lists the firmware they tested upgrading from. I have been able to update from other firmware not listed, so I presume they simply choose not take the extra time to test more than commonly used firmware. I can't be 100% sure I've gone from your firmware, and the devices are older so even when upgrades are supported there is some possibility of complications or device failure. Not sure if any were that old though but I would use the HP Download Manager which automates updates to JetDirect cards and test one. I can see if I happen to have an older one as I have an extensive repository of old firmware.
I will check and post back. Thank you for your reply! Download Manager attempts the update, but fails repeatedly. After some (tedious) digging on the HP forums, I found a post that mentioned the FW updates are specific to certain versions in some (unexplained) cases, and pointed to the info I provided in my OP. It says you can go to the latest FW only from those listed versions. Regardless of why, I have tried tree printers using DLM, and all have failed. The one printer I tried to update at the Web GUI failed and is now bricked, so at least DLM uses a recoverable method, but not a successful one.
Definitely post back if you discover any old copies of J4169A FW you stashed somewhere! Otherwise, my users will have to ( GASP!) walk more than 10 steps to get their prints. #### Just go ahead and try firmware update. As said by others the referenced document may not be up to date.
Be aware that some variants of a particular JetDirect model can be updated while some not. For example, you mentioned HP JetDirect 610n EIO print server (J4169A), firmware L.21.11. It could be that this particular JetDirect 610n variant is not possible to update due to hardware limitations. Hardware components used in a model can differ across its variants.

Some variants used flashable memory some not.
Older versions of the firmware only support upgrading using the, but documentation regarding this seems to have been removed from the HP website (This also seems to be the method that HP Download Manager used). You need to set up a TFTP server on your computer on the default port (69) that will be accessible to the printer. You can for example use available for all popular OS's. Then telnet into the printer and type the following commands (assuming that the TFTP server's IP address is 192.0.2.1 and it serves the firmware under the name example.dld): tftp-server:192.0.2.1 upgrade-file:example.dld upgrade Wait about two minutes and do not reboot the printer or the TFTP server during that time. When you can telnet into the printer again, the upgrade should have been successful.
